The Effect of Plasma and its Substitutes on Saponin Hemolysis

Abstract
|

|
The author studied the effect of dextran, PVP, human albumin, blood plasma and cholesterin on
hemolysis by saponin C&B and digitonin, and obtained the, following results:
1) Dextran and PVP had no marked effect on saponin hemolysis.
2) Blood plasma, cholesterin, and human albumin protected erythrocytes against saponins in this order. 3) The protective action of plasma seemed to be chiefly due to its protein as well as cholesterin.
